The course has a DELF pathway. What does that mean?

This course caters for beginners who wish to study French for pleasure as well as those who are interested in taking an exam for certification.

DELF stands for Diplôme d’études en langue française and is the official diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify French language skills. This is good to have on your CV/resume. 

Can you arrange for this exam to take place with French-Action.com?

No, this exam is to be taken face-to-face at an accredited centre in your country, like l’Alliance Française. 

Should I follow the DELF pathway if I am not taking the exam?

Yes, you can absolutely still do the activities in the DELF pathway! They offer excellent practice for anyone wanting to build strong foundational French skills. However, if you are actually planning to take the official exam, going through those extra pathway exercises is highly recommended to ensure you are fully prepared.

Some listening activities have fast speech. How do you expect me to understand as a beginner?

It is completely normal to feel overwhelmed when listening to fast speech or multiple different voices at the A1 level. Hearing native-paced French for the first time can feel like a blur, but there is a clear pedagogical reason for including it. Native speakers rarely speak slowly, so I am trying to expose your ear to natural flow early. At the A1 level, you are not expected to understand every single word. The goal is gist comprehension—identifying context, tone, and key details (names, numbers, locations, greetings). This is good practice for the DELF exam.

Module description In this module, you will begin communicating in French through simple greetings, introductions, spelling, and talking about where you are from. This module gives complete beginners their first practical tools for basic conversation. Module outcomes By the end of this module, you will be able to: • Greet people formally and informally • Introduce yourselves • Ask another person's name • Spell simple names • Say where you are from • Give your nationality

Module description In this module, you will learn to count, give your age, share contact details, say where you live, and complete a simple registration form. This module focuses on practical, form-filling and everyday exchange language. Module outcomes By the end of this module, you will be able to: • Understand and say numbers from 0 to 100 • Give your age • Give a phone number and email address • Say where you live • Ask and answer simple personal questions, including marital status • Complete a simple registration form
